Velveeta, Ro-tel, Bacon and Skechers and Iron Sharpening Iron…

Posted by on June 24, 2011

I am home after a four day trip to Mars, I mean, Hong Kong.  People ask how it went and I feel like when I describe it, that it happened outside this solar system…beautiful views, culture (most of which I skipped and read my Kindle while my two culturally-sensitive friends enjoyed Asian art), no children, deep conversation and lots of laughter.  I find that my favorite kind of “iron sharpening iron” is accompanied with weak stomach muscles from non-stop hilarity.  This is definitely one of the best venues to become more godly.

I had great plans of surprising my friends at the airport with a very ridiculous outfit (something I like to do when picking up friends, so beware!)…however, my whole 3 month-planned operation came to a screaming halt when Jen & Kristie’s plane was 8 hours late and the guards in the airport looked a bit trigger-happy with their machine guns….I figured that waiting it out just for a reaction and then getting shot would really put a damper on our girls-getaway…but here is what they were supposed to see when they got off their plane.

Our time together was great…a sweet break from our normal lives.  It was rather daunting one day to realize that my kids were in Thailand, I was in Hong Kong and Buddy was in Cambodia…while it was fine, I was super glad to get home and start to get our family back together again.  My friends brought me some US essentials found below:

American "wants": Velveeta, Size 10 shoes, Bacon and Rotel

They actually brought a bunch of stuff, all “wants”, not “needs”, but all of it was appreciated!  The kids thought it was Christmas when I got back with gifts and treats from both Okinawa and America.

On the ministry front, Buddy is down with our former students from Okinawa in Cambodia blessing the orphans that Stop Slavery helps fund.  He says that they are doing great and I will make sure to keep you all in the loop as I hear from them.  It’s so great how God is using our former students to minister in our current setting…I know there are so many people who don’t get to see visible fruit from their ministry and up to this point, we have been spoiled rotten in seeing God weave so many parts of our life and ministry together.  We are blessed in this way.

Thanks so much for all you do to encourage, give and keep us here…Jen
