Tooth Gone & First Visitor Here!

Posted by on February 5, 2011

It seems like a lifetime since I have put down on “paper” what has been going on here as we adjust to living in Thailand.  We are discovering that it takes a long time to get things done here…the other day when we arrived at the end of the day with a printer purchase, we felt like we had hung the moon!  Most nights we head to bed wondering what we did all day.  It’s just a matter of learning and the curve seems pretty big, but getting smaller every day.  Today we actually got 2 bed spreads, a mattress pad, sheet set, AND groceries.  Red letter day.

Thought I’d give you a picture of our wheels…we are borrowing Pauls’ “song taew” (pronounced “Song, t-OW!”).  The kids ride in back – I was being overly protective at first because the back gate isn’t on anymore, but now I just enjoy the quiet up front with Buddy!

Speaking of Song Taew’s…could you pray that we can find one at a decent price for our own ministry vehicle?  We had a lead yesterday, but someone saw the good deal before us and got it.  You kind of have to find and pounce on the deal.  Getting a car has been a crazy adventure.  Used cars are super expensive here.  A 1998 car is selling for 8 or 9 thousand dollars.  It’s the opposite of America where cars lose their value after they are driven off the lot.  It seems they keep every bit of their value here!

Yesterday we scored Jack some orange cleats and today we got some “Japan Quality” bananas.  I also was able to procure some Japanese Rice because we have discovered that we are rice snobs and while the Thai rice is good, it’s just not the same.  What little snoots we’ve become!

Buddy is on his way out the door to pick up our first visitor here in Chiang Mai!  Some of our military friends from Okinawa are here doing a joint exercise with the Thai Military and we have the privilege of seeing some people that we know through Calvary Chapel Okinawa.  How sweet to have the privilege of entertaining the people that we have loved for 10 years!  Thank you, Lord!

Continue to pray against the forces of darkness here in SouthEast Asia..we find ourselves feeling the need of your prayers over us more and more…kids (and us!) grumpy,  easily angered and quick to frustration abound in these days and we know much of it is incited by the strongholds that Satan has in the area of the world.  We have never felt the need for your prayers more.

PS – I had to get a tooth pulled…good thing that Dental stuff is cheaper here…IMPLANT here I come!
