The Rathmells have landed!

Posted by on January 28, 2011

It’s true…we’ve made it to Thailand…it took four planes from Okinawa, but we weaved our way through Asia rather handily and found ourselves in Chiang Mai only 28 hours later.  🙂  Showing up at our “new” house was a bit surreal..we’ve seen it (and rented it) online, so it was fun to really understand it in 3D! 🙂  The kids have been enjoying the plush gardening and Koi Pond that the owner built.  It provides for hours of entertainment and we’ve had no sightings of snakes so far…

Our trip included an overnight sleep on a one star playground in the “Budget Terminal” in Singapore…we found ourselves snugged up against other people who are determined to save a buck and sleeping on the airport floor.  Thankfully, all I could remember was the 1994 caning of some poor vandal, so I was confident that no one would dare steal our stuff.

The old tenants left some interesting stuff behind for us:

* A porcelain flamingo
* Gray Suit Coat
* A mouse floor mat
* Pink Purse (keep the comments to yourself, Kristin Singley)
* and a Jesus Praising Cactus (how did they know?)

Cracked me up.  We are so glad to be here – we have cell phones and Paul and Sandra have been stellar in taking care of us (to include hiring a gardener to cut back the bamboo because as Paul said so nonchalantly, “Oh, tree snakes love that tall bamboo!”…gardener STAT!).  We are so blessed and we love you all.  Thanks for checking in…stay tuned…the first few months in a foreign land is a great source for humorous blogging. 🙂

Jen for us.

Charming Suit Coat for Buddy

Seeing this made me think “I really haven’t left Asia (there’s always something random laying around)!”

Polka dot flamingo-parrot hybrid found in the girls room…

How did these people know I need a real girls purse?

No missionary house is complete without the Jesus-praising cactus…

Stay tuned…
