Standardized Testing, Customs and Alaska

Posted by on February 22, 2011

Friends…thought I would update you all on what’s new…

The kids are taking standardized tests this week at Grace International School, where they will most likely attend next year.  So, I guess today was Megan’s “official” first day of school.  (Side note, the other day, I met someone who is a teacher and she said they didn’t homeschool because they’re “really into education”….I thought it was funny because I’m kinda into education, but I thought homeschooling included it…I just asked her to clarify that what she meant was that she was into “formal” education.  Probably should’ve let it go, but alas, the mouth kept going!)  Anyhow…they seemed to enjoy it today and they all looked soooooo cute! 🙂

Our stuff is in Bangkok and it looks that our customs fee will only be around $1200, which feels cheap in a strange, weird sort of way.  It is due here on Friday, but that could really mean anything.  Those of you who are military folk know that waiting for it is a mixed blessing…we’ll finally have a can opener, but we’ll have more moments of “What the heck do we do with this?” than gratefulness over a kitchen utensil, I’m sure!

The latest big heavy sigh in our life is that my dear friend and ministry colleague is close to leaving this world…she had asked that four of her friends try to come (not obligated in any way) and I am the fourth…I am pondering a way to get there…stand-by tickets, etc…the flights are packed, the money is huge to go…I am stuck between the earthly practical and the heavenly hope of cheering my friend into Heaven.  Please pray…I keep walking around the house sighing really heavily…she is so close to Heaven.  It’s hard to know the right thing to do in this situation.  As you pray and feel a sense of God’s direction, please let me know.  I feel too close to the situation to even have clarity. Getting from Thailand to Alaska seems difficult but not impossible, so pray that I would know.

Sorry to leave on such a heavy note.  Thank you all for caring and reading, praying and trusting with and for us.  We love you – Jen
