Important and Funny stuff…

IMPORTANT STUFF:

Continue to pray for Sareth…our Cadence Cambodian missionary who has been falsely accused and is being thugged around because of mobsters.  He is in a 12×12 prison cell with 25 other convicted drug dealers…this is the harvest field, but it’s a rather cramped one, so please continue to pray for him.  He has friends in government and they are doing what they can, but if you think for a minute that the US government is corrupt (which could be argued rather well)…it’s just nothing compared to this…please remember him.

FUNNY STUFF:

So, you know we’re doing language class and we have now bumped our vocabulary up significantly…it’s been fun, but Buddy and I are doing it together with a great teacher…and well, let’s just say the interpersonal dynamics (if one is bent on noticing such things) are pretty hilarious.  (In a nutshell, clearly, the classclown thing stays with a person throughout life and Buddy, who is a firstborn and takes this all pretty seriously, is not all that amused by my antics at times)

Before I launch into my story, first you gotta see our “sound it out chart”…you can’t make this stuff up:

So…after the first two lessons, I say to him…do you notice how our teacher only looks at you?  Of course, he says “no”, and I go into my whole “theory” about how I never get talked to, looked at, etc.  So…in my research mode, I made Buddy switch chairs with me to see if it was just a “neck” thing and sure enough, only looking at Buddy.

Long story short, we got to the bottom of it last lesson…while stammering around in our broken Thai, our teacher looked at Buddy and said, “Khun Buddy looks like…..(pause)….Tom Cruise!”  WELL, NO WONDER!!!  Of course, I break out into barely controllable fits of laughter, giving Buddy that, “I told you she looked at you more than me” look…Later I found out that Thai people think it’s a compliment to stare at beautiful people and between Buddy and I, he won the beautiful contest.  I still can’t help myself from laughing and making snide remarks during our class.  (At one point, Buddy said in a very first-born righteous voice “Do you even want to learn Thai?” to which I couldn’t help replying, “Yes, I do, Tom”. He still was not amused, but his good looks get him really far in life, and he’s doing some great Thai learning!  🙂

See how fast I can go from important to unimportant?
