Tour Guide, Sticky Waterfalls & Life

Posted by on June 17, 2011

It’s been a while…they should tell you when you sign up for VBS that you really aren’t going to get some time to get things done while your kids are gone…(another one for my future book “Girlfriends guide to Christian motherhood”!)!  Instead, you play taxi driver and suddenly life breaks into a full sprint!  That’s what happened this week…throw in a wonderful surprise of our friend from Roanoke’s Faith Alliance church (and her 3 summer missionary cronies) and you’ve got a PARTY!

My first go-around as a travel agent in Chiang Mai included:  Riding elephants at the elephant farm, Tiger Kingdom where people thinks it’s a good idea to get pictures with drugged up tigers, getting traditional Thai photos, the Night Market and getting feet nibbled on by little fish.  I actually bailed after the Thai photos and give the girls money to take a tuk-tuk home.  I did not even pretend I had the stamina of a 20-something!

The next day we looked for something FREE to do and finally went to “Sticky Waterfalls”, which is actually a waterfall that you can climb up because the rocks are limestone and while you don’t really STICK to them, they aren’t slippery and you defy all rules of logic and sanity.  It was fun…kids had a great time…there’s a pool at the bottom that is fun to swim around and it’s just an overall fun place to be.  Megan said she wants to camp there for her birthday and the invite our house church up for a barbeque.

Heading up the falls....

We head into the second half of June continuing the pace that we inadvertantly got ourselves into a week early.  🙂  Buddy heads to Siem Reap to help the missions trip that is coming from Okinawa and we won’t see him until the first of July.  I have the very rare privilege of going to a “girls-getaway” thanks to some frequent flier miles…my sweet dear friends from Okinawa are meeting me in HONG KONG!  I’m so excited to spend time with such dear friends and have some time to encourage each other in our respective ministries…

One last picture of normal life in the Rathmell home…me parenting from the couch…nice.

I am never one to miss a teaching moment and an opportunity to wag a finger!

Love you guys…Jen for us
