Surrounded by ridiculous givers…

Posted by on May 20, 2011

After a little charade yesterday with our mail-woman on a moped, I figured out we had a package at the Post Office…A package? I thought we had scared everyone away from sending us stuff because it cost so much….

Apparently, we haven’t scared away people who like to give ridiculous gifts.  Imagine my surprise when I see the return address being from Okinawa!  What???  Long story short…inside was a treasure trove of the snack aisle in the Kadena Commissary (that’s a government word for supermarket, by the way!)  And this is why it’s ridiculous (and because I know the people who sent it, I know it was entirely purposed to be so…).. the contents of that box couldn’t have cost more than $35…BUT getting them to us cost over a Benjamin.

Aisle 5 of Kadena Commissary stuffed in a box.

Megan was so excited, her eyes crossed.

The Orange thing is a can of powdered Gatorade.  Mr. Sporty loved that.

Key word:  BEEF.

Our kids stuffed themselves with Doritos, Goldfish, granola bars and Capri suns…I see dinner in our future!  And, let us not forget the BEEF jerky…um…yeah!!!  (Buddy is gone on a personal pray and plan and (chew, chew) I hope there’s some when he (chew, chew) gets back!)  Seriously…we crave red meat like Jen Oshman when she’s pregnant. What a treat…what a love gift.  Thank you, Laytons!

This life of ours is so unique…we are indebted to people without the usual connotation of being in debt.  We are given to because of people’s love for God and their desire to obey and serve and bless Him.  We are the tangibly blessed people because of a love that goes deeper than people’s love for us.  What an interesting place to live and while at times (during support raising, etc), it is overwhelming, mostly it is humbling and God continues to use it to hone us and craft us into people who better understand His gifts to and for us.

We are humming along…moving into a very busy season of life, but looking forward to our colleagues coming in on Tuesday to join the Cadence team here.  Buddy is spending some time away praying and thinking through the 2nd half of this year…please pray that He would hear Gods voice and trust Him with what he hears…Continue to pray for Sareth…as soon as we have an update, we will let you know.

Love you guys – Jen (chew, chew) and goldfish-stuffed kids.
