Are we boring missionaries already?

Posted by on April 5, 2011

No frogs on windows, partially eaten fowl or piling on of a vehicle…we may have done it all in the first couple months here!  Actually, having a normal week is super unusual in these parts, and that is exactly what we’ve experienced the last couple days.  I kept waiting for some “missionary moment” to occur, something noteworthy….and then it struck me that to have a normal couple of days really was out of the ordinary.

The Harbor missions team from Okinawa left last weekend and with it, we found that a part of our hearts seeped out and left as well.  I, especially, found myself in a melancholy funk, not realizing that I had felt so connected to our past lives by having them here.  I got to enjoy some very sweet and extended time with my friend Jess (whom I got to baptize last March with Jennifer Oshdog, my BFF) and just being around them felt wonderful.  I found myself taking some of my own pious medicine that I’ve been shoveling out to Adrianne about God filling her heart in places that friends used to occupy.  (Big parental gulp here).

Thank you to all have been praying as a result of my plea for Adrianne’s heart regarding friends…just last night and tonight, our kids spent the early evening at the school pool down the road (it’s Spring Break here) and we met a girl in Adrianne’s grade down the road.  She is Thai but has attended Grace International School all her life…her mother died in a fire (she was also severely burned) and her and her brother have had a great time with our kids at the pool.

So, if you think of things to pray about, just move to the normal things that everyone needs…kind hearts, encouragement, submitting our will to God and that I won’t kill my children in weak moments! 🙂  We love you all – see below for some pictures of Jess and I at a Thai Cooking Class…hilarious and fun…come…I will take you too!
